Safety and Quality Assessment System
In the frame of the programme Responsible Care, CEFIC (Confédération Européenne des Fédérations de l’Industrie Chimique) has launched at the beginning of the nineties the ICE programme with the aim of improving the safety level during transport, storage and handling of chemical products.
The key factor of the programme has been the development of some modules for the Safety and Quality Assessment System (SQAS), each one related to a definite transport mode or logistic operation (road, railway, intermodal, car washing, shipping of loose or packaged merchandise, terminals and freight transport by river).
SQAS provides a tool for an even assessment, by independent auditors and a standard check-list, of the Quality, Safety and Environmental Management System set up by logistic operators, so as to avoid multiple audits by different chemical industries. SQAS helps the chemical enterprises to select the suppliers of logistic services and to set improving goals to each of them. The SQAS assessment performed by Certiquality brings forth a detailed report, which each individual chemical enterprise may check against its particular requirements.
