EMAS REGULATION
The Ecomanagement Assessment System (N° 1221/09/EU “EMAS”) implies a voluntary commitment of the enterprises to meet the requirements of a Community Regulation for the management of the environmental impact.
The Regulation establishes a kind of new relationship among Enterprises, Supervisory Bodies and the public at large, based upon a mutual cooperation aiming at reducing the environmental impact of company operations, according to appointed schemes that the enterprise undertakes to carry into effect.
The Regulation provides that the Enterprise, after carrying out a thorough investigation of the environmental impact of its operation, issues a public statement describing its environmental policy, supported by actual improvement targets and validated by an accredited Body.
The statement must be backed up by the evidence of an Ecomanagement and Audit System able to ensure, besides the compliance with current laws, the attainment of the targets.
Such a System usually meets ISO 14001 requirements and consequently is in most instances certified too. CERTIQUALITY was the first Italian Certification Body to gain by the ECOLABEL/ECOAUDIT Committee the accreditation under N° IV-001 for operating in several NACE sectors.
